A recent study in the journal, published in Denmark Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis, and Vascular Biology, a mention of psoriasis increases the risk of abdominal aortic aneurysm or the onset of dilation of blood vessels in the stomach.
Abdominal aortic aneurysm is a fairly rare condition, i.e., the blood vessels in the abdomen becomes enlarged. An enlarged blood vessel that can burst at any time and can lead to death. Abdominal aortic aneurysm generally does not bring up the symptoms until the blood vessel ruptures.
According to the researchers, the more severe the degree of psoriasis is a person, then the higher the risk of abdominal aortic aneurysms is exposed. The conclusions were obtained from studies involving approximately 60000 patients with mild psoriasis and over 11000 people with severe psoriasis.
In a 14-year research found, 240 people with mild psoriasis and severe psoriasis 50 people have abdominal aortic aneurysms.
Previous research showed, psoriasis associated with inflammation of the blood vessels thereby increasing the risk of heart disease.
According to cardiologi researcher from Denmark, Dr. Usman Khalid, patients with psoriasis have to be more aware of the likely risk of cardiovascular disease, such as heart and abdominal aortic aneurysms including by conducting the examination.
Further research is needed to determine whether treating psoriasis with anti-inflammatory drugs can also reduce the risk of the aneurysm. Up to now there has been no cure psoriasis. Drugs that exist only to help reduce the symptoms of psoriasis.
